A priest from the great country of India, the Asian sub-continent, sent in this:
“flower of a toxic plant of the Datura family. Called by both names Angel’s trumpet and the Devil’s trumpet. Also called Brugmansia suaveolens.”
Hmmm….. This priest follows my blog. He’s a friend. He has a sense of humor. I have to wonder if he sent this in as a comment about my purchase the other day of a Glock 19 9mm Gen 4. Anyway, I will immediately give this to Jesus to give to Mary.
The question the other day was if the Immaculate Conception would accept a flower from me if were to be packing heat at the same time, that is, carrying more than what should at any rate be a fairly deadly shepherd’s staff. I think I’ve answered some of the attendant questions as you might see by clicking on the category “Guns.” But there is more, of course. There better be a good reason, especially in view of some of the words of Jesus Himself on this matter of “swords.”
But before we get to that, I’m hoping that Mary Immaculate would accept even this flower, toxic and awfully named as it is, even if she might look askance a bit, even as baby Jesus rolled His eyes, not because of the kind of flower it is, but because I was, as a priest-shepherd, packing heat.
Here’s the deal: Is it not true that we might not be clear on absolutely everything at all times and in all circumstances? Did the great Aquinas just not quite assent with certainty to all the circumstances of the Immaculate Conception? Remember, this is a question not about guns and CCW so much as a priest with a gun / CCW. But before we get to that – Patience! – perhaps it needs to be said that this, the Immaculate Mother of God, saw all of our sin and foibles and weakness and lack of understanding while she stood under the cross with that incomparable, ineffable purity of heart and clarity of vision and agility of soul. I’m guessing she would accept the flower even if I were wrong, at least for a time, about priests who carry. I again think of Father Walker…
Of course, all our LEOs carry and need to carry and must carry and have the blessing of God to carry. But, more than that, and prescinding from the priest question, does not the state depute citizens to make use of their guns appropriately for self-defense even if any gun was said to be bought for sporting uses only? Yes, society does that. A carrier is, however indirectly, though very intentionally as well, deputed to act correctly in whatever given circumstance. Right?
Anyway, our Lady faced down any and all even diabolical angels of death and laughed a most sweet laugh at them. She, of anyone, deserves to get this most beautiful if toxic flower in her honor.
But this is still not answering the question about priests who carry. Patience!
