You’ll have to excuse me. I didn’t actually talk to much about the angels or archangels today, but rather followed the Gospel, which is always a good idea. I talk about figs, of all things. But you’ll be surprised that this is the key to being open to work of the holy angels in our lives. This is the key to understanding the exclamation of Nathaniel about Jesus and the exclamation of Jesus about Nathaniel. Humility brings us purity of heart and agility of soul. Both are necessary when dealing with the holy angels.
I always like hearing that Jesus loves us so very much. I have a frozen beverage machine that has an LED display that alternates from the status (either freeze, chill, or off) and a custom message. The custom message I put in it is “Jesus loves you!” The children love pointing it out; “mama, look what it says.”
I also like hearing that Jesus loves us so very, very much. I want to imitate you and tell that to my catechism children very often. I already use your phrase about Jesus’ “goodness and kindness” which, simple though it is, is such a pleasing and true and consoling thing to say. And I did think this homily was more about angels than about figs.
