Mount Carmel Stations of the Cross

Once you’ve seen these stations, you can’t un-see them. But, the intensity of them… Well, it all bears repeating, so I post these again on this Friday which we call Good.

I made this set of videos (about 20 minutes all told) during my time living just over the cave of Elijah on Mount Carmel, Israel. The O.C.D.s had invited me to stay there for an entire month during the years that I was a chaplain at Lourdes. I must say that these videos are very emotional for me to watch to this day. What a fright! But… Jesus, Mary’s Son, is just that good and kind! Even though in watching these you don’t move from station to station yourself, I’m sure your heart will be transported to be right next to Jesus, to be with Him in solidarity, and to be right next to His dear mother as she accompanies our Lord, again in all solidarity. Dear Lord…

I am grateful that you share these two videos with us Father. They bring to mind how very much Our Lord loves us and yet is hated for it. The real haters are not those designated as such by the politically correct but the politically correct of whatever time and place who hate Truth. There is a timelessness about Mt Carmel. The great drama of Salvation History extending from Genesis 3:15 to the end of the world is played out in every generation. Each in his own lifetime experiences but one instance of this while Mt Carmel has been witness to the glory of the Cross and suffered it’s battle scars across millennia. So very many have lived and died in Christ before us and hopefully we will do as they did. The battle between the Church and the world, fierce in times past, is heating up again. The rejection of Truth and subsequent hatred of Christ and His Church is vicious as the attacks on the Stations of the Cross on Mt Carmel show. Our Lady wants us to wear the Brown Scapula – the Scapula of Our Lady of Mt Carmel – we need to do so and to know the history of Mt Carmel. Its history is that of the world in microcosm.

That last shot of Our Lady of Sorrows above the gate of the monastery is beautiful. Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us who have recourse to thee.

The haters of the Cross did their very best to wipe out every vestige of the 12th station shown in the 2nd video. It shows Our Lord’s death which redeems us and is therefore the station the devil hates most.

Thank you for putting up the Stations of the Cross on Mt Carmel again Father. It is already Sunday afternoon here, 25th of March, the anniversary of the Annunciation and Incarnation. It is so very fitting to stop and reflect on these Stations today, the outcome of Our Lady’s “Yes” to God’s for our salvation at the Annunciation.

It just occurred to me that when the camera is lowered from time to time, that it is gliding through so many flowers (dandelions, perhaps) that pass by the field of view like so many stars in a galaxy.
