After I apologized for the length of the homily, responses were along the lines of “That’s O.K., Father. It’s entertaining.” Maybe preaching is therapy after a rough week.

How times have changed. When I was a kid the average “homily” was at least 45 minutes long (especially if the pastor gave it) and went by the title “sermon.” Your homilies are worth the time you take. Keep preaching it, Father!

  2. Beautiful, thank you.

Not only was it entertaining, I retold the exorcism stories in Bible study as an example of how, even if one is a priest, it is God who acts to accomplish His works, but we are still meant to cooperate by doing our part (like you saying the exorcism prayers). This friend wanted to know how to find your blog.
There is always a rose sale after Mother’s Day Mass that benefits a state pro-life advocacy group, that you can give to your mom or put it in a vase in front of a statue of Our Lady. They ran out before I had finished praying the Office of Readings (my fault for not getting going in the morning early enough to pray that before Morning Prayer before Mass) but I found a petal and a rose leaf and made Monsignor wait to lock up the sanctuary till I bought that and gave it to Our Lady.

and yes I paid the price for a complete rose for my rose petal and leaf, so I believed Our Lady would count it as a whole flower.
