To be a fly on the wall…I wonder what is afoot. Maybe this is a blessing in disguise, Father George.
I wonder if the ‘powers to be’ are trying to avoid the Missionaries of Mercy at this time? Perhaps they realize that the M.O.M.’s will ask questions they would rather avoid.
Like Joisy Goil, I am wondering if the Vatican is trying to avoid unwanted questions. They have already shown that there are certain things they don’t want to be drawn on. The ignored dubia comes to mind and the Pope Francis’ ” I will not say a single word about this” when asked on his way home from Ireland last year about Archbishop Vigano’s allegations. Then this year when the Catholic Herald asked about developments at the Pontifical John Paul II Theological Institute for Marriage and Family Sciences they received a waffling reply, assuring them that the “unavailability (of an answer to their question) is momentary because we want to be absolutely serious … The institute remains desirous of giving exhaustive responses, but asks a few weeks’ time in the month of August in order to formulate adequate responses.” Unless I missed some news, those responses have not yet eventuated nor has long awaited information on McCarrick on file in the Vatican been released. So much for transparency!
Whatever is afoot we can hope, like Catherine, that what has been set in motion turns out to be a blessing in disguise. That would be good.
Maybe he doesn’t want to make commitments that might fall during the conclave.

@ Elizadelphi,
Yes, you could be right. The Holy See is being sued over sex abuse and Pope Francis may want to resign before those charges involve him personally. Oddly, he appears to have helped those pursuing the action by drawing their attention to the “pontifical secret” when he abolished it in regards sex abuse last week, the existence of that secret now being used as a weapon against the Church. Sex abuse attorney Jeff Herman ‘said the timing of the Pope’s decision was “divine” and made it “crystal clear” that the shield of silence came from the top down’. Herman is accusing the Church of centuries of abuse ‘and speculated the settlement could reach into the billions’. Clearly, this class-action has the potential to do massive damage to the Church’s reputation and finances, and in that case the press and others would have a field day attacking the papacy; so perhaps Pope Francis would prefer not to be the pope if and when that happens.

I have so much to say on this. I wish I could speak with + Vigano.
I hope you get to speak with him Father and will pray for this each time it comes to mind.
Perhaps Pope Francis’ Global Pact for Education being launched in May this year may be why the Holy See nixed the Missionaries of Mercy International Meeting. According to Andrea Gagliarducci “the pact is about a world alliance for a new culture, and not about a culture that emanates from the Church and radiates to the world”. He concludes his article (link below): “The Pope looks at past practices, but he has no scruples in setting everything aside if it does not fit his goals”.
