The cheetah looks amazing stretched out running, something kangaroos can’t do yet a mob of kangaroos travelled parallel to the long wheel base camper van I was driving many years ago when crossing the Nullarbor (an extensive and mostly empty, dry and treeless plain in South Australia). It was night and my family were asleep in the back so I was driving below my normal van speed of 80km/hr (50mph). It was a sad night, driving my dying father across the continent to spend time with his brother and be buried with my sister. There were no lights apart from the van’s headlights and the world so silent when a mob of kangaroos came out of the darkness and travelled with me for a short distance. Until then I didn’t think such awkward looking creatures could hop / bound through the air as fast as a motor vehicle (I guess I was doing about 65 kms/hr – 40mph) and I enjoyed their company while it lasted, which wasn’t long but something I have never forgotten. They are not beautiful like the cheetah, nor as fast, but there was something “homely” and companionable about their presence that night.

Such an amazing creature. Looked like his feet barely touched the ground. With my creaky joints, I felt jealous just watching him.
