Each time I hear / read, “… the days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them; then they will fast” (Matt 9:15), I know it refers to what happened 2,000 years ago but wonder if it might also mean that our Eucharistic Jesus will be taken from us in the (near?) future. Such does not seem impossible given recent events: loss of belief in the Real Presence, the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass forbidden to many during the Covid-19 crisis, the discovery that not all priests have been validly baptised and that the necessary words of Consecration at Mass are not always spoken. If we lost Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament, we would be so forlorn … and yes, we would fast.
Yes. All of that. But what happened in the days of our Lord is always happening. When He is lifted up on the Cross He will draw all to Himself.
