ARISE! LET US BE GOING! 
When we were studying Sociology of Education at university, myself and the other trainee teachers in the lecture hall were told that teachers change the culture. How? Each child (unless homeschooled by parents or attending a truly independent school run by parents) is forced to attend an institution of mass education. By means of its syllabus and curriculum that institution is able to take “preventative action” against parental beliefs and values not held by academe’s elite who supposedly know better than parents. In other words, since the advent of mass education, government and academe approved teachers have stood between each generation during its formative years, occupying a position of power capable of disrupting the passing on of traditional beliefs and values. To do so is considered progress by the powers that be. Frightful, isn’t it? … But it explains a lot.
