Notes on the Beatitudes of Mary Immaculate: mourning

  • μακάριοι οἱ πενθοῦντες, ὅτι αὐτοὶ παρακληθήσονται.
  • Blessed are the mourning, for they will be comforted.

Mourning, eh?

  • “Is it nothing to you, all you who pass this way? Look and see if there is any sorrow like my sorrow which was severely dealt out to me, which the Lord has inflicted on me on the day of His fierce anger.”

Meanwhile, in that fierce maternal love giving rise to such grief: Behold this Treasure of Love and Truth, who makes all things new, look at how much He has loved you. The deep currents of blessedness in unshakable faith are strongest at such times, and gush forth in fulfillment with great joy upon the Resurrection. He has indeed made all things new in His love, in His Truth.

Notes on the Beatitudes of Mary Immaculate: poor in spirit

  • Matthew 5:3 — Μακάριοι οἱ πτωχοὶ τῷ πνεύματι, ὅτι αὐτῶν ἐστιν ἡ βασιλεία τῶν οὐρανῶν
  • Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of the heavens.

A couple of passages come to mind:

  • Regarding Jesus: “But He emptied Himself taking the form of a slave, being in the likeness of men” (Philippians 2:7).
  • Regarding Mary: “But as for you, a sword will pierce right through your soul” (Luke 2:35).

Saint Paul says that we are to be tabernacles of the Holy Spirit. Tabernacles, of themselves, have nothing of themselves, and are inappropriate if filled with anything but that which they are meant to contain. Tabernacles must be void of themselves so that they might contain the treasure for which they were created.

μολὼν λαβέ – You want my freedom?Bwahahahahahaha!

Sure: the powers that be might slander me and drag me before kings and princes and imprison me, have me tortured and put to death. So? Have they taken my liberty? No. No they haven’t. Jesus will NOT let anyone rip me away from His unstoppable grip on my heart and soul and mind. No one else can take my liberty in Him who freely let Himself be nailed fast to the cross for our sake, standing in our place, the Innocent for the guilty.

We all have the liberty, the freedom to stand with the Son of God, the Son of Man, Christ our God, and retain that freedom of Love and of Truth and of Life that is eternal. We are free to be as happy, joyous, blessed as the beatitudes would have us be. And that, my friends, is a great freedom that no one can take away.

No worldly battle, nothing that evil men can come up with, nothing that Satan can devise, is enough to rip us out of the very Heart of our Lord. We might take a hit from a soldier’s spear when we are in that Sacred Heart, which was pierced through, but it’s a privilege to witness to Jesus, Christ our God, unto death, unto life. Blessed are they who… So…

Bwahahahahahaha!

I don’t laugh because I am strong or virtuous or not a sinner or whatever. I laugh because Jesus is my strength. I’m with Him. I praise Him as my Savior. And you? He will come to judge the living and the dead and world by fire. Amen.
