Your best guess: what do you think it is that got my ire up so that I might preach in this fashion?

I’ll take a guess: sola scriptura and once saved always saved.

Father, as I listened I thought you were upset that we have everything we need to get to Heaven (the Mass and Sacraments, and the teachings of the Church), gained for us at great cost, and yet pride in our paltry accomplishments and preoccupation with what we want can make us unloving and unable to see the Truth. Hence, God’s love for us and ours for Him seems unimportant – nice and quaint but not essential to eternal life. As a consequence, respect for one and other becomes irrelevant, opening the door to using others and even to killing those who lack legal protection if those persons stand in the way of our selfish desires (e.g. unwanted babies in the womb and unwanted sick and elderly).
