- “Jesús, Marie, Joseph, je vous donne mon cœur, je vous donne ma vie.”
- “Jesus, Mary, Joseph, I give you my heart, I give you my life.”
Trying to find mosaics or carved images… nothing appropriate was to be found. When I saw this machine paint-projected canvas all ready to install… I just loved it. Everything is right about it.
Some might want golden hearts etc., but methinks we shouldn’t make the perfect an enemy of the good. And perhaps no one would pay attention to the hearts themselves if they were made of gold. It might be the wrong message, what with our Lord taking away our hearts of stone and giving us hearts of flesh by which to suffer with those three:
- The Most Sacred Heart of Jesus
- The Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary
- The Chaste Heart of Saint Joseph
I recall a story of a woman suffering greatly, on her death bed in a hospital, who called over a priest who was there, saying that she has just this to say as her last will and testament:
- The Most Sacred Heart of Jesus
- The Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary
- The Chaste Heart of Saint Joseph
I think this does well for its “messaging.”
We could get a plaster bas relief of the Last Supper. But I’m forever mentioning the Sacrifice of the Mass, the Wedding Feast of the Lamb, united with Calvary. Such a bas relief would be a bit redundant. But the hearts? I think they help those assisting at the Holy Sacrifice to unite their hearts to the Sacred Mysteries.
But is it too “cheap” for our dirt-poor parish? We must have something “better”?
It’s true that so very many of the great cathedrals were built during the great depression in 1930s America. Being dirt poor doesn’t matter. Poor people will sacrifice for the best for our Lord.
But it happens that, to me, I don’t know, but to me, these three hearts are the best.
But, your thoughts?
Absolutely Love it !
Beautiful. Just right!
I agree, Father, these three precious Hearts are the best image for the front of the altar. It is what these Hearts signify that matters, not the amount spent.
I immediately thought of the Holy Family as well. There should be many different messages, signs, symbols, to be seen by the different parts of the one body of Christ.
I think it is beautiful and appropriate for the consecration of families.
I think my thoughts go to the Holy Family, who suffered in their own ways, but the Heart above all gave His all. (and it is lovely)
I think it’s a perfect choice.
Wondrously devout!
Yeah, but I think St Francis of Asissi would prefer it in gold leaf, even while wearing a tattered cloak and bare-footed!
When did you put in the Icon of the Trinity?
So that’s inherited from the founder of Gloria.TV some thirty years ago over in Rome and has followed me ever since. Sorry to say, it’s a poster. It was up in rectories, at the hermitage, in the rectory chapel here, and finally upon a bit of renovation of what is now a sanctuary set up for ad orientem, up at the church. It covers a bookshelf which is used for the lecturn. The Sacred Mysteries!
Thank you. I love that Icon.
I like it too. If it was gold you might have to worry about vandalism. (you’d at least have to insure it)
As it is, it is lovely and brings minds and hearts to the Holy Family.
The altar rails are wonderful!
Yes, and Our Lord front and centre in the tabernacle: the sanctuary fitted out as it is meant to be, with altar rails defining that holy space while also providing communicants with an appropriate place to kneel and receive Our Lord.
All that was good and beautiful, but cast aside by those who would change the Church, is coming back. The tide is turning despite the “wreckovators” attaining the highest positions in the Church.
Wonderful choice!
