Father Kenneth Walker FSSP (9/13/1985-6/11/2014)

Dear Father Walker, please pray for me, a knucklehead donkey-priest. I was assigned to one of the parishes where you lived as a youngster, and very likely provided you with the Sacraments very many times, all thanks to Jesus, but I also made you sit through lengthy inadequate sermons. I apologize for that. Please pray that I speak with joy and faith about dearest Mary Immaculate, and about her dearest Son, Jesus. Please pray that I have the same faith while living as His priest in this world as you had when laying down your life while coming to the aid of your fellow man in the midst of deadly aggression. Amen.

I’ve no doubt that you unknowingly influenced Fr. Walker as a child. I don’t know…but God does. I was in Phoenix attending daughter with a newborn when this happened and saw the outpouring of love for this priest.

Oh, I never knew that Fr. George. That’s pretty neat. I knew Fr. Walker mostly as a seminarian. (“Kenny.”) He came to our house at least a couple of times if not more. At one of our parties he was the highest ranking seminarian so he was asked to lead the meal blessing. I think it was when he was a deacon, a couple of months before being ordained. The kids remember that he was so nervous about leading the prayers with a pretty good-sized crowd that he said the wrong prayer. I think that’s cute. Anyway, I do remember him as always being so genuinely kind. Ordinations are always such a jumble that I honestly cannot remember if I got his first blessing or not but I do know that I’ve prayed to him so many times over the years since he passed away. I prayed to him a lot for my son before he entered the seminary and now that son is a deacon. It’s such a huge blessing to be able to pray at his grave which is not far away from here. I once took a picture of his grave and showed it to my little son who was praying there. He couldn’t understand why he wasn’t in the picture so we took another picture with him in it. I think it’s a good idea for me to pray to Fr. Walker for that rascally little son of mine. 🙂

Today’s article by Father Gordon MacRae focuses on the story of Father Walker. Beauty and sadness walk together as they often do.

I have only just watched the video. What a beautiful exposition on Fatima, thank you Father. And may Father Walker rest in peace, in eternal happiness with Our Lord and His Mother whom he loved and served so well in this life.
