Dognapping world’s smartest dog

A while back, when I was transferring groceries from the car to the patio, Laudy-dog took advantage and zipped out the barely open gate. He went racing up to the school, came racing back down, then racing around the neighbor’s house (three dogs over there), then racing into his own back yard of the rectory, back with Shadow-dog. Happy dogs. Happy ending. If Shadow-dog gets out, he goes back by himself into the gate in seconds. All good. This is a happy home for dogs.

But this time, Laudy-dog was dognapped, with the dognaper leaving tell-tale signs, or is it tell-tail signs proving malice. Whoever it was didn’t dare take oversized GS Shadow-dog.

I’m guessing the dog-nappers have kin somewhere to the South, and that, if a truck door were to open, say, on the driver side, say, to fuel up at a gas station, say, in Murphy, about 15 miles to the South, that Laudy-dog would have bolted like lightning right over the driver and race away. But where to?

Many in the parish put a picture of Laudy up on social media, as did the local radio station. He was found walking on an unlikely back road not far from the Casino, and was picked up, the story goes, by an old man and a boy, who gave it to a daughter to call the number on the collar. Smart lady, she called the Veterinarian on the rabies tag, who called me. Happy ending. Laudy-dog was in good shape and very happy to be back home. Picture just now, after a good meal:

I’m happy that Laudy is just fine, and that this drama is not akin to the story of the 911 call of Marcus Luttrell:

There is a book titled “Tobit’s Dog”. If I remember correctly it is a version of the Book of Tobit in Louisiana in the thirties. Very enjoyable.

Father George, thank goodness Laudy is safe and sound. I’ve gotten rather used to the little guy being around. The whole adventure sounds bizarre…well, never a dull moment in your life.

    Sincerely,
    catherine
