Isaiah Cantrell’s racist identity crisis and the rest of the story: Thank you, Jesus

REPORT: “Reports later surfaced that police jailed suspect Isaiah Cantrell, who, according to the court affidavit, said Jesus’ ‘skin color of the statue was the wrong color.” Cantrell added that ‘Jesus was Jewish and therefore should be a darker skin color.”

My comment: Dearest Isaiah, you’re right, of course, about the outside thing, you know, the skin color thing, the melanin thing, sure, gotcha, I’m with you on that, totally. And the ol’ whiteys don’t like it, they just need to get over it. The Word of the Father become flesh, the Divine Son of God, the Divine Man, entered our fallen history in a very specific time in a very specific place by way of a very specific mother, bearing all those characteristics of that time and place and person. You’re right on emphasizing that: Jesus is a Jew, and salvation, as He said, is from the Jews. Yep. Great! That insight puts you head and shoulders above revisionist historians.

But you effectively kill off the statue of the very One you proclaim to respect? You got yourself some deep misunderstanding, deeper than just skin deep.

Here’s the deal: Jesus said that when He would be lifted up on the Cross, He would draw all to Himself, so that what He validated in one particular place and time as God-Incarnate with all those historically unrepeatable circumstances He validated, in Himself, for all particular individuals of all particular places and cultures and for all time, from Adam until the last man is conceived. Saint Paul speaks of this as the “Body of Christ” with Jesus being the Head of the Body and we, all of us, Jew and Gentile, slave and free, man and woman, are members of that Body of Christ. All lives matter to Jesus. He proved it. He laid down His life for all of us. We find our redeemed identity in Him, not in mere skin color.

As it is, I’m a lily-white white boy, lots of Russian, lots of Baltics, lots of Polish, lots of German. I rejoice that when Jesus reached down into this world at great cost to Himself he stretched out His hands on the cross so far that He was able to grab me, the lily-white white boy, and draw me to Himself, He having pardoned me my many sins, He inviting me to be in humble thanksgiving to Him. I rejoice that unlike what we do, He reached across skin color, across borders, across time, to do this. And for all those reasons I have much for which to be humbly thankful.

Don’t take all that rejoicing away from me, Isaiah Cantrell.

Don’t take all that rejoicing away from Jesus, who was happy to do this for us all.

I find my identity in being brought to life by Jesus. I’m a lily-white white boy, and Jesus is a Son, the Son of Abraham.

Dearest Isaiah, it’s a mistake to reduce Jesus to skin color. But Jesus died for you too. You can repent of all this foolishness. Go to Confession. I do. Jesus loves you, even to die for you.

You might notice, art critic that you are, Isaiah, that Jesus and His blessed Mother have been depicted with the skin color and cultural characteristics of all peoples right around the world right through the centuries, right through the millennia, not to claim Jesus and His good mother as only their own and to hell with everyone else, but to rejoice that Jesus’ redemption – good Son of His mother – has reached even as far as them.

I’m happy for Jesus and His mom to be depicted as a white, as Jewish, as black or brown or yellow or olive or whatever. This is our Jesus!

From the Apocalypse, 1:7:

  • “Every eye will see him, every one who pierced him; and all tribes of the earth will wail on account of him. Even so. Amen.”

Fingerprints DNA Chips and Biometrics: “Who are you, anyway?”

donkey hoof

No one believes the passport. After hours with ID experts of whatever country, the frustrating question to me is always, simply, and only, if politely: “Who are you, anyway?” After some hours, they let me go, exasperated. It’s not that I do bad stuff. They’ll just call me up, demanding that I make an appearance at whatever embassy or consulate. So, how to identify me for sure? It’s a hassle.

Fingerprints

It’s not that my fingerprints are absolutely unusable. I think I have three that are still there in trace form, kinda, perhaps. But according to the most recent scanning, not even that, not really. She predicted they would be rejected by the SBI. Life is what it is and can be pretty rough on fingerprints. Fingerprints can also be lifted, manipulated, transferred.

Deoxyribonucleic acid, also known as DNA

Ever since I was a teenager I’ve been giving DNA cheek swabs. I mean, was I at risk of being confused with someone else (ask I, tongue in cheek). The purpose way back in the day had everything to do with identification and nothing to do with genealogy. But this was always just an American thing as far as I know, and yet, once the signature is established, that can be uploaded in databases easy peasy and a new DNA test would confirm the match on the database. Oh wait! That wouldn’t work either. Hack that database (by way of an insider, because, you know…) and replace your DNA with a guy with a clean record. That’s re-uploaded to databases all around. A check to the database for ID shows nothing untoward and you’re good to go. Then, when your DNA is investigated, it comes up unregistered and it just looks like someone made a mistake. Of course, if you’re re-tested and there is other DNA, like blood, at a scene, you’re done in.

Chips!

Same problem as the DNA switcheroo. “They’re unhackable!” blah blah blah. That makes no difference. You can establish a code’s presence wherever by way of hacking. If you have the code, you can transfer that to your own chip and you’re good to go.

Biometrics…

I’ve got my Gold Star ID Driver License with the picture being taken with, you know, biometrics: twelve points on the head/face all interrelated with each other as far as distances and depths. Great. These are used everywhere for a long time for airport security and what-have-you. This seems to be the answer. Unless, oh, I forgot, for the really desperate cases of ID fraud, go cross eyed for the picture, and otherwise do a bit of nip and tuck and get well placed injections at the conveniently located NCPS adjacent to Liberty Crossing Campus.

Comment:

People are so anxious about who they are. What if it were to be said that Christ is the Head of the Body and we are the members of the Body and that in heaven – please God we make it there – we will rejoice in the good we see in others because that good will be our own good because that good will be God Himself. That kind of disarms all the flutter about ID and such doesn’t it?

People are so weird in this world. They will be quite surprised at just how much God’s ways are above our ways, that love and truth and goodness and kindness and integrity is not the same as political correctness and subterfuge and deceit and conceit and cynicism. God is love and in that love we can rejoice. We find our identity in Him, creatures with their Creator.

Sovereign Citizens Oxymorons: Descartes’ last sad joke on the world

marvin the martian

If your very person is sovereign to yourself so that you are otherwise without territory, you are nevertheless subject to the laws of the place where you happen to be, right? Can you be a citizen (=a city’s denizen) if you are one person without a city or a city state or state for that matter? Oh I forgot. Sovereign Citizens are not persons, as that’s a “contract word”, so they are just human beings…

Can Sovereign Citizens, whatever they are, rape and pillage and murder, and break the speed limit while under the influence for that matter because they say that local laws don’t apply to them?

What an irony that in claiming to have an ultimate standard of identity in just themselves as cut off from God and man, they have no identity at all.

Sovereign Citizens are the final sad joke of Descartes’ “Cogito ergo sum” — (I think therefore I am). All alone, relative only to themselves, nothing, vacuous, empty…

But then there’s the acting out on the frustration of having no identity. I’m not talking about an identity of belonging to this or that country, but the problem of one not having an identity of who one is before God and, therefore, who one is before man. Not even knowing that this is the problem leads to extreme writhing frustration and weird guesses as to why one is the way one is, like not belonging to whatever State. This is a recipe for resentment of laws and, because one is a law unto oneself, makes one more likely to be a violent anarchistic and terrorist than any others. I would also think that these would be likely candidates, ironically, to be violent Marxists, making the violence of dialectical materialism without borders into one’s identity. One can attempt to find one’s identity by identifying with others who have no identity. The energy of rationalization of one’s state becomes the driving force of every aspect of one’s life.

A priest friend often asked me over the years why it is that communists have such ferocious energy to dedicate to their cause of nothingness that is nowhere, the old ploy of the utopia carrot on a stick that is tied to one’s own back so that one can never reach it.

Well, it’s this, the total lack of identity. The lack of identity is too painful not to act upon.
